Crafting Is Therapy

Alcohol Ink

Let color flow freely in mesmerizing fluid art that's as unpredictable as it is beautiful.

Alcohol ink art is pure color therapy. These highly pigmented, fast-drying inks move and blend in ways that feel almost alive — pushed by air, tilted by gravity, blended by isopropyl alcohol. The results are always surprising, always stunning, and always uniquely yours.

Alcohol ink is the craft that taught me to embrace imperfection. You can't fully control where the ink goes — and that's the whole point. It's a practice in surrender, in watching something beautiful emerge from chaos. Every piece is a reminder that not everything needs to be planned.

Tips & Tricks

What You Need to Know

Use Non-Porous Surfaces

Alcohol inks work best on non-porous surfaces: Yupo paper, ceramic tiles, glass, or glossy cardstock. They absorb into regular paper and lose their vibrancy.

Blend with Isopropyl Alcohol

91% or 99% isopropyl alcohol is your best friend. Drop it onto wet ink to create blooms, push colors around, or lighten areas. The higher the percentage, the more dramatic the effect.

Work Fast

Alcohol inks dry quickly. Have all your colors ready before you start. Once ink dries, you can reactivate it with isopropyl alcohol, but fresh ink flows most beautifully.

Use a Straw or Air Blower

Blow through a straw or use a small air blower to push wet ink across your surface. This creates organic, flowing lines and stunning feathered effects.

Seal Your Finished Work

Alcohol inks are not lightfast and can fade over time. Seal finished pieces with a UV-resistant varnish or resin topcoat to preserve the colors.

Ventilate Your Space

Alcohol inks have strong fumes. Always work near an open window or use a fan to direct fumes away from you. A respirator is recommended for longer sessions.
